Myofascial Release, also known as Connective Tissue Therapy, targets the connective tissue that surround your muscles and individual muscle fibers. This soft-tissue therapy technique incorporates a slow, targeted treatment to help “break-up” stuck, connective tissue, in turn increasing mobility to joints and temporarily increasing of blood flow to the muscles.
How Can Myofascial Therapy Help Me?
The most common area Myofascial Release is used for is for the Iliotibial Band or IT Band. Located on the outside of your legs, starting from the hip and down to your knees, the IT Band supports the outer knee and plays a big factor in how you walk and run. Sports activity and/or being physically active often strains the IT Band and in time can actually shorten it, causing pain and affecting your mobility and posture. Myofascial Release Therapy will help break-up the ‘stuck’ connective tissue surrounding your IT Band, which will help alleviate pain and increase your mobility.
